MBA/FUTURE WILDCATS LEAGUE RULES

1.      This is an instructional league.  The sole purpose is to develop basic basketball skills and interest in the game of basketball.

2.      Games will be played in two 17 minute halves.

3.      The clock will be continuous, except during substitutions, timeouts and injuries, until the last 2 minutes of the game.

4.      During the last 2 minutes of the game, if the spread is 10 points or less, the clock will stop on all dead balls.  If the spread is above 10 points the clock will continue to run.

5.      Substitutions will occur 12:45, 8:30 and 4:15 of each half.  Each team will follow the designated substitutions patterns with injury or illness as the only exceptions.

6.      Each team will line up players by size and skill to match up players evenly.

7.      There will only be back-court pressure by the defense during the last 2 minutes of the game for 5/6 and 7/8 grade boys if the spread is 10 points or less.  Once the defense has secured possession of ball after a turnover, rebound or after a made basket, the new defense must retreat to the half court line before it begins to defend.

8.      No back court pressure for 3rd and 4th grade boys and all girls levels at any time.

9.   Free throws for 3rd and 4th grade levels will be shot at 12 feet.

10.   There will be no 3-point shots in the 3rd and 4th grade levels.  All shots made behind the 3-point line will count as 2 points.

11.   Each team will be allowed 2 timeouts each half and timeouts cannot be carried over.

12.   The first overtime shall begin with a jump ball and be one (1) minute with clock stoppage.  The second overtime shall begin with a jump ball and played until the first team to score.

13.   Sportsmanship is of the utmost importance to the MBA/Future Wildcats Program.  Any player who receives a technical foul for unsportsmanlike conduct shall be ejected from the game.  Any technical foul regarded as flagrant by game officials will result in that player being suspended from playing in the team’s next game.  A player’s suspension MUST be served in person.  If a player stays home for the teams next game after an unsportsmanlike technical foul, he or she will be suspended for the following game.  Any player receiving a technical foul for a rules violation will not be ejected or suspended.

14.   If a coach receives a technical foul, he or she is immediately ejected from the game and the situation will be reviewed by the MBA/Future Wildcats Program board within 48 hours on a case by case basis.  The appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.

15.   The teams participating in the game will be responsible for finding a scorekeeper and clock keeper for their game.

16.   Playing rules, other than the ones listed here, are determined by the National Federation of High Schools, which determines rules for basketball at the junior and high school levels.  These are the rules that govern play at Marion Junior High and are the rules that will be used for the post-season tournaments in which the MBA/Future Wildcat teams will participate.
