MSI Player Power Ranking Guide

In an effort to help create fair play and parity within the MSI recreational league. We are asking the parents/guardians of the players to assign their player a ranking of 1 -5 based on their players interest and current skill level as it pertains to soccer.

Our goal is distribute the talent as evenly as possible within the league, so that the games may be as equally matched as possible.
With that being said please do your best to accurately evaluate your player.
Simply because your son or daughter is a 1 or 2, does not mean that your son or daughter will not turn into a good/great soccer player. Likewise, because your son or daughter is a 4 or 5 doesn’t mean they will make the high school team.

1 - Possibly players first time playing organized soccer. Player is unclear as to their interest in soccer (maybe they do/maybe they don’t like it). Player typically will not play soccer and work on their game outside of organized practice with the team. They possibly have a real fear of the ball/sport. They play because their friends do or because their parents want them to.

2 - Player is becoming more confident moving the ball for their age. Offensively they are beginning to dribble and pass and they may take a shot from time to time, but still will lose control of the ball frequently in the game. May lack confidence moving/dribbling the ball and may lack aggressiveness. They have emerging technical skills (dribbling, passing and shooting)

3 - Player can perform two of the following three skills pretty well- Dribble, Pass, Shoot. Will not perform all three well. Player has an overall moderate level of confidence and aggressiveness. Player has a good basic understanding of the sport for their age. Player enjoys playing the game, working on foot skills and will do so at home or at one of the various training academies.

4 - Player is confident and can proficiently dribble, pass and shoot (this does not mean that they never shoot and miss). Player has an above average understanding of the sport for their age. (They probably enjoy watching soccer). They enjoy playing soccer, practice at home and may even take additional instruction. They genuinely enjoy the game of soccer. They may/probably have played some extra soccer at an All-star/small club level.

5 - Player is very confident and has the ability to dribble, receive/trap, shoot and defend consistently. May strike the ball with some force. Player most likely plays or has played some level of competitive/ club soccer. Player enjoys the sport to a degree they participate in extra instruction at home or at one of the academies on a regular basis. They enjoy playing and practicing outside of their league scheduled events.

Need more help...

-If soccer is important to your family and it is a sport that you spend time with in the backyard or at the park on your own, your player is probably not a 1.

-If your son or daughter is moving up from one age bracket to another (aka U8 to U10 or U10 to U12). It will be very, rare that they would receive a ranking of 5.

-The majority of the players in a recreational league will receive a ranking of 2, 3, or 4.
